and food.

We slept well at the Ancient House Resort in Hoi An. We do wake up early, but that doesn't matter, and we have absolutely nothing planned for today.
Pia's stomach seems to be doing fine now, fortunately. But a kind of eczema on her thumbs is starting to flare up.
Breakfast is just as good as yesterday, which is also nice.

During breakfast we decide to take the bus to the beach today. On the map of the hotel it seems close, but we take the bus anyway, at eleven o'clock.
After breakfast we first look for a shop where we can buy large plasters to put ointment on Pia's painful thumb and protect it. And that takes quite some effort, we do find small plasters, but we can't cover the top of the thumb with them. Finally we see a pharmacy and they do have large plasters and an ointment to ease the pain a bit.
Then we walk all the way down the street in front of the hotel, and of course back again, there are mainly eateries and spa/nail/hairdresser-like businesses.

In the van it turns out that it is a good thing that we did not walk, it is a fifteen minute drive via a route with many turns. The van stops at a restaurant, The DeckHouse An Bang Beach, and via that restaurant we reach the beach, An Bang Beach. The beach is narrow, there are a few sunbeds and there are a lot of waves. There are warnings everywhere not to swim because of strong currents.
We walk quite a bit along the beach, the beach is clean, but the land just behind the beach is certainly not, there is a lot of rubbish, mainly plastic. Back at the restaurant we order something to drink and a little later something to eat, Pia's food tastes good, Tom's (fish and chips) not so much.

Back at the hotel, Pia wants to go to the old city center, she wants to buy lanterns to hang in our veranda at home. Because the bus won't be leaving for another two hours, we decide to walk, a good fifteen minutes.
At the market we look for lanterns, there are plenty to find, but we don't even know what we want. After a while we come to the conclusion that we want small lanterns with not too exuberant paintings and colors. We eventually come to 5 small lanterns for 350.000VND, and a little later that becomes 500.000VND, because we also take a large one. Then we walk around a bit and wait for the bus back to the hotel.

In the evening we have a drink in the hotel bar.
